I stopped for my lunch break. The jerk boss does not let me take long. One more "while I am in there" fix. The driver's door handle gets a lot of use after 377,000 miles. It has felt funny, or at lest not right, but it worked fine. With the door panels off I could see the problem, a spring that returns the handle down and holds it in place had broken. The old spring was in the door bottom. Gravity is pretty reliable, and did OK for bringing the handle down.
So thread my hand into a hole the is lined with sharp edges for a few more nicks on my arms and the old handle is out. It is 100% analog, no power locks so just the rods and levers to make it work. One clip has to be slid forward, and two nuts removed. I bought a new handle years ago knowing that I would have to replace it someday. The replacement is a Dorman, and looked like crap compared to the factory one. The only problem was the spring, so use the spring on the old handle and back into place.
The real challenge was to get the pull rod back into the right position while looking through the window opening, and restricted hand movement made it a 6 on the 0 to 10 cussing scale. Finally got it on by double checking the passenger side to make sure.
The driver's door top panel is easy. The lower panel is the new one. The car had a outside mirror control knob that is once again 100% analog, and held in place by jam nuts. I cut the funny shaped space for the bezel, and managed to get that back on.
Now for speakers mounting and hookup and then the passenger side. Getting close to done. I am ready to be done.
