GP-5 was designed for Reno Air Races. Wood construction with a 625hp automotive engine. Tail dragger which went through several $20k props in development. Lee Behel piloted the plane to a 4th place Sport-Gold finish in 2012 but unfortunately was killed in 2014 qualifying the GP-5.
GP is for George Pereira (RIP) who also designed the other red airplane (GP-4) and it too was wooden construction. George had a hangar at Rio Linda and I had the pleasure to fly with him in the GP-4 a few times. I actually liked flying in the GP-4 better than with my dad in his Varieze. Good times.
