I’ve decided not to use the RSR bumper, never liked to look of it, and it didn’t fit right. I like the older, classic look of the early 911s, 356 and 550 spider, so I’m making a carbon fiber cover inspired by the 550 spider look.
I’m just doing the design manually, with foam and sandpaper, then laying glass mold over it. Because I couldn’t find a 3D model of the car, I think it’s just easier to do the design manually.

Hi Andy,
Any updates or did you abandon the 3D modelling altogether? I would like to maybe pick up where you left off and use some guidance from both yourself and/or Geronimo to perfect the design. I have a young background with 3D modelling but am picking up the skill sets quickly. My skills are more in mechanical fabrication and I am also learning composites. I would like to design a kit car 911 of sorts as the real ones are unattainable to me at this point. I will try to hone some skills in the mean time by designing a formula racing simulation cockpit that I will be building - sort of a tube frame assembly with fiberglass outer shell and inner tub fused together.
I will be then transferring this skill set to the 911 where I would like to create a similar inner/outer fiberglass tub/and body of a 911 that will have a tube frame cage and front and rear subframes for support and rigidity. I am not expecting it to transpire overnight but I need to start somewhere. I think I could probably work with your model to finalize an outside shell that is accurate to within +/- 1mm and begin designing the underpinnings to the actual chassis from there.
I will study the suspension geometry and try to understand where it was strong and where it was weak and improve upon that with modern understandings, but likely won't deviate a whole lot. Maybe even make it exact so that as many factory/aftermarket parts will bolt up as possible.
Can I potentially download your 3D models and see where to begin? The original blue prints would be helpful too. Do we know of other 911 blue prints are available? I.E. 964/993? Part of me would feel more comfortable modelling by hand, however, as mentioned I do not have a 911 to start with and will be creating it from scratch. I plant to build a light duty CNC table to cut bucks from foam, reinforce them, create molds, and begin punching out the pieces. Not for the purposes of resale as the 911 seems to be a tricky one for Porsche to let go to the kit car world. Likely due to the fact that the model lineage is still alive today.
Thanks for any and all help!
