Was mowing weeds in an old field using the drum mower when one of the shoes under the drums lost the bolt which secures it to the spindle. Loaded the shoe into the bucket of the tractor to get it back to the shop. The clamp which secures the shoe to the spindle was deformed, so heat and a hammer were required. I finished off the reshaping with a file and got it back onto the spindle.
The old mower was cheap enough so I could have it rebuilt for less than the cost of a new one, but every now and then it will teach me something.
At least it didn't break down during haying season.
