Looks like fun.
That looks like a stock VW carburetor. It could be one of many models from the looks of the photo. It also appears to have an 009 distributor. Some (most) stock carbs do not play well with the 009, especially if it's a Chinese knockoff 009. If the distributor isn't German, or at least Brazilian, prepare for trouble.
Before you sink any money into a carb rebuild, I suggest doing some research on The Samba about what combinations of carbs and distributors work well together. The carb and distributor system is critical on VW engines. You might be better off with a different carburetor. A Weber 40 IDF is a great carburetor and works with the 009 very well, but it's spendy. Aircooled.Net also has an article on sand rail carburetion, but it doesn't address the carb+distributor system as a whole.
