In Maryland the State Troopers have a website that is part of the FFL process where they will check. Maryland is very restrictive and I will not do private gun sales here with people I do not know.
Not sure in Texas. Call the local PD and let us know what they say.
I would still heed the advice that you want to hold the cash, not the Kimber.
BTW, Kimber's are a tricky pistol to evaluate depending on the year of manufacture. They had issues for a period of time with quality control.
