Another thing top related. When I bought my 996 I found a leak in the hydraulic rams for the top (edit: I say found... as the dealer had held the car for about 3 weeks getting it up to "our standards prior to sale" but they couldn't bother to find and address that issue (Porsche of Rockville)). That fluid ain't cheap, nor is the fix.

I found a company that rebuilt the rams. I think they sent out refurb ones and I sent mine back.

The problem though it isn't a simple like for like swap. Once I was finished my top wouldn't go back to its locking position at top of wind screen. Off to the dealer it went for calibration. Of course they found this and that that also needed addressing so the bill was a few thousand (in addition to the costs of the rams, which I believe was only $700, vice about $1,000 per each)


Dang, now I'm inspired to get mine back on the road.
