We live next to a decent sized green belt, several years ago in late summer I was out watering plants in the early evening and could smell smoke. I walked up and down the street out front trying to pinpoint the cause to no avail.
Started working my way through the woods and found an abandoned "campfire" kids had set and then wandered away from.
Carried 5 gallon buckets of water out to it for about 45 minutes to ensure it was out. Fires here will burn for days in the under-duff and reemerge some where else now and then.
We still had a shake roof as did a couple other neighbors- wildfire scares the carp outta me

Thanks Skip, thank you for doing the right thing putting that campfire out.
BTW, absolutely love the last doggo pic in your last post.
Scary stuff for sure. Last year the evacuation warning line was dropped less than a mile from us last year during the CalDor Fire. Today, they pushed it within 5 miles for the current Mosquito Fire. We have been here for 20 years and the last four have been crazy.

Today
At least they are forecasting strong winds out of the North pushing it right towards us…[emoji51]
