Ugh. Good luck with basement stuff. I had a leak a few years ago, downspout was not connected to extension properly, and under heavy rains the rain would just fly off the roof (inside corner) so I buitl a deflector to direct the water into the gutter. No issues since. Hopefully you're as lucky.
