I like to use a concoction of Oxyfresh, baking soda, Hydrogen Peroxide, OxyClean, vinegar, bleach, Fabreeze, tea tree oil in the washing machine on hot, then leave it in the sun to dry.

Edit: if your hat survives, it has to work!
