Ted, my first ever ride on track in a truly fast car was back in the late 1970s at Road Atlanta. A guy named Duncan Powers bought an old used 1974 911 RSR for less than 20 grand. It was just an old used race car back then. I had been running in my 100 HP 914 and having fun, and I asked if I could go on a ride with him. He said hop in, and off we went. As we came to the first turn I was standing on my non existent brake pedal as he was still accelerating, and then we just turned after a slight tap of the brakes. The speed difference from a 911 RSR on race rubber to a 74 912 2.0 street car on Michelin XWS street tires was extreme. And later the values sorta reflected that. I wonder what the RSR is worth today, a bit more than my one 914 would be.
Duncan also had a 906, but no room for passengers.
