Lots of settings to help with that. By default they are all pretty wide open, but you can crank them down.

Exactly. I don't use it a lot. I don't post much. But I am in a few groups, and have friends that are ex-colleagues (networking) and remote family that I can stay in touch or informed about. Mostly I tell folks "Happy Birthday" when their birthday is announced.
