Give these guys a call when they're open. If anyone can tell you if they're worth the effort they can.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out this is the shop Sierra Madre uses to do their 356 wheels. My brother has had them re-set the offset on wheels and they came out great.

The late Jeff Trask, 912 guru/aficionado, would have them make up custom wide wheels for his 912's. I've been to their shop and they work on ALL kinds of wheels.

Stripping the chrome back all the way to the aluminum is what would be involved, I believe, and then re-anodizing to the original finish on your wheels.

Edit: It may be cheaper just to get another set of originals. I recently bought a wheel for my daughter's Suburban from these guys and it is like new. Here's what they have for your car:
