I was in line at a buffet meal at Parade one year and started chatting with the guy in line behind me. We got to talking about trailers, and he said he started with a open trailer pulled by his F150 pickup. That was soon replaced with bigger and bigger trailers and trucks. He was a retired doctor, and he just traveled the country with his rig and went to various car shows and race days. His wife of many years had died, and he wanted to see the country and enjoy life.
We ate together, and he invited me to see his trailer. It was a 18 wheeler, Kenworth tractor, with a large sleeping area. The trailer was a white trailer with not for hire on it, and when asked what he was hauling he just would say old tires, true but a partial truth.
He opened the back, and he had three cars inside, a 914-6 GT track car, a spot for his new at the time 911 street car and a 904 show car. It looked like the snap on truck was just off loaded into his trailer. All the tools needed to do any repair. The 914 had no windshield, and the 904 is short as well, so he had a lot of vertical space for the 911 street car to fit under it. Lots of spare tires, and a tire mounting rig. He could go to a car show, autocross or track day. He also went on driving tours in the street car.
He said he goes home a few weeks at a time to Oregon, to make him a legal resident of the state, then back out on the road. This was all 15 or 20 years ago, so I suspect he has stopped that travel by now.
I suspect that would be fun for a couple of years, and he would be done with it.
