Spam bots don't need you to SEE the spam links, they just need them to be there, because it helps when the webcrawlers come by and see the links sitting there.

Silly worthless comments scattered all over, then go back 2 weeks later and edit in a link. No one notices...well, no human here notices. Webcrawler bots sure do notice through, and the spammer gets paid.
