This is my 4th 4Runner. I had a 1987 (1st gen), 2001 (3rd gen), 2008 (4th gen) and now the 2019.
Best? Depends on the usage, maybe. Which one have a like the best? The 1987. 22R-E, 5-speed...simple and awesome.
