My MIL passed away a year ago and my wife ended up with her PFAFF sewing machine that was about 30 years old. It was the top of the line model when new, probably $800-1000. It still worked and the MIL was pretty good with it but hadn't been used in about 4-5 years.
My wife doesn't want it so she takes it to a repair shop to see if they'll buy it or have it appraised. They don't want it but say she you put it on-line for $500 and see what happens. So she lists it on the typical sites and of course no bites for months. She starts dropping the price 100 every month and it gets to $200 and she get a response from a women that lives about 45 minutes away and wants to see it. She shows up and wants it and of course offers $100 and my wife takes it. Deal done, $100 richer.
The thing that doesn't make sense is the buyer. She drives an hour and half round trip and is driving a new Lexus SUV. She says she doesn't know how to sew. She could have gone to her local Walmart and bought a new in the box machine with a warranty and a how to video and a help line. But who am I get give her advice and nix the sale. I just wanted ith machine out of my garage.
Now we also have a "serger machine" for sale if anyone needs one.
