It is what the designers insist on. I worked as a professional photographer with more than a few models. Once they relax and realize the gig is a legitimate shoot, they become real people. One manager was telling her newest model, "to be a runway model" women have to walk to a spot and put their hands on their hips and sway their hips out. Men have to put their hands in their pockets, for just a second or so, if the clothes have pockets.
Then the manager said the other thing is don't eat. Stay anorexic skinny.
One model was amazing. She came in to the studio as a very plain chick. She went in, put on her face, and came out a model. She could throw a smile that was mesmerizing at will. To smile a sincere smile on command is a challenge for mere humans. They are all a weird group.
