I think the issue would be that the core thickness would be limited to the stock dimensions. All of the upgraded intercoolers I have seen are thicker or wider than stock. My understanding is that adding thickness certainly helps efficiency, but adding width and height does more, hence the "full bay" intercoolers you see. The amount of effort to change just the core on a stock unit alone would be more than just fabricating up a new one. If you run AC you may be limited in your choices unless you are willing to relocate the rear condenser. There are other options if you are looking for a plug and play intercooler with better efficiency. I see them pop up on here from time to time. Kokeln, Garretson, Andial to name a few. Just be careful you don't get a "Long Neck" style that eliminates the bypass valve unless that's something you are wanting to do. There is a post in the 930 forum from someone looking to ID a few, perhaps they will go up for sale soon.
