Standard practice for Paypal to make the buyer pay for return shipping in disputed cases. I found this out the hard way as well. The paypal buyer protection has it's limits, but I feel it is better than nothing. Musical instrument gear site Reverb now has packing guidelines and will rule in favor of the buyer if something is damaged and you can prove the packing guidelines were not met.
