When I lived in Japan, that was how we rolled, white cotton waffle long johns.
I had (still have) a pair of the military gloves, gray wool w/black leather overs. I've also got my dad's old watch cap. I haven't yet needed either.
I was a kid when we lived in Japan, and I think kids love cold, snowy winter weather. I know I did.
When we lived in Japan, my dad got something very similar to the jacket below from a guy that flew in P3 Orions. It's got the zip out liner, and I want to say I've seen something that said that it was certified for arctic use. I believe it. Even without the liner, I've never been able to wear it without sweating.
