Had a neighbor ask me if I could fix a chair with a broken leg that she picked up at an estate sale yesterday. The broken part was MIA so I had to create the repair piece on a curved Queen Ann leg that also tapers from top to bottom. I crated a template for the leg to get the curve right, glued up two pieces of 3/4" red oak (although I think the leg may be mahogany) and milled it by hand using a miter saw, jig saw, bench sander and random orbital sander. I used JB Weld and dowels that I think will hold up well. Pleased with how it turned out. Will spray with poly after a couple more coats of mahogany stain.
In addition to being a neighbor, she is the Realtor that sold my FIL's house a year ago for $40K over list. She is an amazing person who is unfortunately battling pancreatic cancer with a level of selfless grace that is truly inspirational. I think she'll be happy with the "no-charge" repair.
