These are photographs of a rivet which attaches an eyelet to a boot. As you can see, the rivet is not properly installed. The photos show both sides of the rivet. I have a rivet gun and a box of rivets, but they are unlike this one. So....I do not understand how this rivet works or how to fix it. Here is what I wonder:
Could it be as simple as pressing this rivet further using my bench vise? Simply compressing it to the point where the ends of the rivet are flush with the eyelet and the leather? Would I need to use a special jig, or can I simply put this in a press with flat business surfaces, such as a vise?
