A tradition that has evolved in the family for thanksgiving when we gather at the old "home place" (armadillo ranch) is to smoke the turkeys in the BBQ pit. My son and two of my nephews each bring a turkey and roast/smoke them all day before the meal. Typically, one uses a traditional spice mix, one is BBQ flavored and the third is some exotic recipe that they have come up with.
This year it was Ethiopian style spices. They did a lot of research on this one. It was really good.
