UncleBilly, You're absolutely right. When I was growing up, there were four rifles and an ancient 12 guage on the place. A lot of folks around here now (rural Nova Scotia) don't hunt, don't have stock and have little interest in having a gun they don't use hanging around.
When I was young, I remember going through a box of 22 in a weekend. We had our own range set up in an old river bed. Shovelled a lot of gravel for the berm. I haven't pulled a trigger in 45 years.
I have said before I suspect more deer die through impact with a motor vehicle than are taken by hunters.
We're not a rural population any more.
