My opinion…2.7 slight value disadvantage base on past auctions. Bad engine, not necessarily so, just bad EPA consequences. Depends too how recently modified the 2.7L MidYear is. Lots of upgrades and if you have to live w/a 2.7 we might as well find a way to make the best of this black-balled engine. Both magnesium cases 2.4 vs the 2.7 but without a history on a 2.7 MidYear may have heat related (unseen) warping and seal issues as I have found. Modified to back date to PMO, SSI’s etc., all for show or a purpose might sway some to spend $$$ but w/o low end to compliment a new top end on the dreaded 2.7 curse case can be a no-brainer. Cool to be fast and pack some punch but it’s not for me.
Bottom line - Original as possible is always preferred. I’d be tempted to forgo rebuilding a dead 2.7 in favor of a well tended used MFI 2.4 (for weekend touring). Now a 3.0 vs 2.4 vs 2.7 ….
