Both magnesium cases 2.4 vs the 2.7 but without a history on a 2.7 MidYear may have heat related (unseen) warping and seal issues as I have found. Modified to back date to PMO, SSI’s etc., all for show or a purpose might sway some to spend $$$ but w/o low end to compliment a new top end on the dreaded 2.7 curse case can be a no-brainer. Cool to be fast and pack some punch but it’s not for me.
Bottom line - Original as possible is always preferred. I’d be tempted to forgo rebuilding a dead 2.7 in favor of a well tended used MFI 2.4 (for weekend touring). Now a 3.0 vs 2.4 vs 2.7 ….

Sorry this is not a mid-year car. There were no heat issues(or smog compliance) on the 73, the 73S 2.4 is identical bottom end to the 73RS, and same heads. Only difference are 2.7 RS pistons with Nikasil cylinders which are much better than the Alusils on the 2.4. Recalibration of the 2.4 MFI pump is required also.
No external differences at all! Just way more torque and more HP. A very sweet setup as long as the engine block mods to strengthen the Mag block.
It looks like the shop knew what they were doing and did a nice job. I did the exact same upgrade to my 73S 30 years ago and have been very happy with the improvement.
I don't think the value would be affected much if the numbers matching block was used.
