We had a rep for the spiders we used on "Arachnophobia". We had copper heat tape on a drain pipe that was to be loaded with spiders to come up out of the sink drain.
The rep said no go so the wrangler had to lay in the cabinet with a blow dryer to heat the pipe so the spiders wouldn't "get too hot and traumatized".
There are "prop dogs" you can rent, very realistic and weigh next to nothing. Perfect for the scene where an actor has to carry it. We usually name him "Stuffy".
