Douglas, you are correct about the Bentley manual.
The oil pressure warning light sender is at the pully end next to the oil pressure (guage) sender. The oil temperature (guage) sender is on top of the block at the flywheel end next to the oil breather. The lubrication diagram on 170-2 is very diagamatic and very misleading. The diagrams on page 102-2 and page 130-4 should have items #1 and #16 reversed. Page 102-6 are the photos if I recall and they are correct. The device locator table at the back of the manual is also reversed about these two sensors.
The reason I discovered this is last weekend I found a little oil on top of my block and I though it might be the oil breather gasket. What I found was a loose connector and what looks like a broken-off (slow leaking) sender. It must have just happened because the temp guage worked the day before. As I leafed through my Bentley manual to find out what it was I got more and more confused. I actually dug up my (previously useless) Haynes manual to sort it out. To make matters worse I think the Bentley manual refers to the flywheel end as "rear" and the pully end as "front"...or maybe that's the Haynes manaul. And just to be clear I think the Bentley manual is great, every new 911 owner should get one.
Now If I'm wrong about all this after running on about it, I'm going to feel real stupid.
Anyway, if anybody else has found errors in the manuals why not post them here for the rest of us. Especially for us (4 month newbies to 911s) who are learning about these great but sometimes frustrating automobiles.
I hope this doesn't rate as hijacking a thread:-)
Andrew
