One of the interesting accident scenes I photographed ages ago was fortunately in the middle of nowhere, Alabama. A 18 wheeler with a load of raw cotton on the way to the mill was struck broadside by a train. I met the train at an intersection. The engine uncoupled from the train, pulled up to the intersection, I got on, and we backed up one mile, I took photos of the intersection. We pulled up to 1/2 and 1/4 mile away and I shot the engineers view. Then from the intersection I sot the cotton balls still just everywhere many months later. The good news is cotton is not a pollutant. No real damage to the tracks or the road and no trees in that area.

It was neat to be on the real train. I had to testify in court that I took them and answer some really stupid questions in court in Haneyville, AL. It looked just like the courtroom from to Kill a Mocking Bird. No AC back then, some slow turning ceiling fans, and lots of lawyers in sear sucker suits with thick southern accents.

The truck driver was only lightly injured, his truck just mangled, and the train was beat up as well. The lawsuit was all about who was at fault, and even back then I knew the train did not chase sown the truck to hit him. Just an idiot truck driver.
