Anza Borrego? there aint nothing there but sand and a few brushes. I hate desert camping. Freeze to death with lots of wind in the colder months, hotter then hell in the summer. Malibu will be nice. If you like costal camping, try Limeklin off pch between San Simeon and Big Sur. We have camped along those camp sites when kids were young. they are hard to come by, all full but then how often can one wake up unzip their tent and see the pacific ocean in full view. I still prefer the high mountains in the Sierra
