Assuming that I can't move over or there's no where to go in front of me (speed up and get to the left) because there's a car in front of me, I'll usually back off a bit by lightly letting up off of the gas. I don't slow down much, or fast enough (like a brake check) but I do slow down. They usually back off.
I like the suggestion of hitting the hazards for a few flashes.
I also fantasize about releasing BBs (the tiny .177 for a kid's BB gun) or maybe a handful of talcum powder. But I'd never do either.
