long life low maintenance is what you are after..

I recently had to replace my GE dishwasher after 19 years....went with a SS Maytag at Home Depot for 650.. 10 year warranty on the motor. I wish it had analog controls instead of digital..everything is fkin digital now.. I do like the machine..

Washing machines..find a good used DIRECT DRIVE made by Whirlpool under various brand names... the new washers crap out after a couple of years...and they don't clean as well. Per a washing machine repair man..
Ted, Chinese company Haier owns GE appliances, among several others. I am fairly certain GE is still made in the US though.

Whirlpool owns Jenn-Air, Maytag, Amana, Roper, and KitchenAid.

Here's were badge engineering comes into play. Jenn-Air is considered fairly high end. KitchenAid also. Maytag, solid middle class quality and Amana and Roper are more for the masses. What does Whirlpool do? Takes a Roper, or a lot of parts from a Roper, slaps some stainless steel all over it and then sells it for 2-5 times the Roper as a Jenn-Air. Same internals, same build quality for the most part, just prettier.
