The motor on my windshield washer quit working, so I pulled the washer tank and associated bits and have a new pump on order. While I was diagnosing the windshield washer pump, I thought I would try the headlight washers. I don't think I have actually ever used them. Turns out they don't work either.
The nozzles on both sides raise when you push the button (headlights on and pushing the button on the bottom of the stalk) but no water comes out. I have removed one of the nozzles and same thing. The housing rises, but no water comes out.
Since the washer bottle has been removed, I have been putting the intake side of the pump in a cup of water to test. When you hit the squirter button, the motor runs and water is sucked out of the cup. When the motor quits running, water runs back out of the pump with about as much force as it was sucked up.
I assume the washers work like an inground irrigation system. Water pressure forces the spring loaded nozzle up and some of that water is sprayed on the headlight. What I don't understand it why the nozzle raises, but no water comes out.
My next trouble shooting step was to remove the hose from the base of the washer housing and see if water comes out. My guess is that it would but this will require removing the bumper.
IF I have to do this, it may stay not working.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!
