So the reason for cutting the stock pushrods, is for quick work of installing a performance cam that is considered 'bolt-in'. Which means it has both more lift and duration but within the limits of the stock valve springs. Also a reason most people or some technicians don't know is valve float due lifter puck travel. Ideally you want just a slight preload on the lifter puck, just enough to compensate for cylinder/ head growth when at temperature. So this is where adjustable pushrods come in with a performance cam install. You set the preload outlined above. The factory set the lifter puck @mid travel in the lifter to compensate for varying heights in the case, cylinder, head. Fine for a stock production engine, but not for a performance engine.
