Never give a producer carte blanche.
Alan Parsons, like David Paich and
Steve Porcaro from Toto, was a studio
rat and wanted everything perfect.
So he polished the recordings until there
were no rough edges left.
That resulted in great recordings, with little soul.
Tom Scholz did the same thing with Boston
but their sound was so good it transcended.
Many times rough is good.
