Instead of your rivets, I used 14 gauge uninsulated butt connectors in my test jumper switch. I crimped one side of the connector onto the end of the 14 gauge wire and left the opposite end as is. The non-crimped end of the uninsulated butt connector fit perfectly into the socket.
