Not a conversation you need to or should even have.
Your friend did not ask your opinion on his parenting skills, he asked about distribution of a settlement.
The answer is, you are, at best, owed your out of pocket, the rest is his.
Don't answer questions that have not been asked. No good will come of it unless of course your objective is to have an ex friend.
