Cycloramas were a popular form of entertainment in the 1880s. French artist Paul Philippoteaux created his first version of the painting in 1883. The second version, still viewable in Gettysburg today, was first displayed in Boston in 1884 and remained there for 20 years before being purchased by a Gettysburg businessman. It is a breathtaking painting that anyone interested in Civil War history should see. It is wonderful it is in a secure and safe location for all to see. We saw it last summer.

I’ve been to the cyclorama at Gettysburg. It was pretty cool. There is or was another one in Atlanta.
