this thread strikes a bunch of chords for me. My super clean, original paint, high mileage, modified 3.6, 83 SC was wrecked, hit hard from behind 2+ months ago, and the at-fault's insurance is moving very slowly to settle.

The point of agreed value isn't just the cost of buying the car that should be equivalent to what what wrecked, stolen, flooded--it's about the total cost to FIND the replacement car, have it transported home, pay the state tax to register it, spend that 10% you spend every time you buy a new car to make it your own---- the whole thing. And in that instance, my car was underinsured with my carrier. I found a nice, original paint but patina'd replacement, and will move the best stuff over from my wreck to the new car, and sell off the left overs....and will be whole, only because I'm doing the labor myself and going thru the effort of selling the bits.

All that being said, I will keep driving my cars and bumping up the insurance such that if or when this happens again, I won't have the same concerns that I'm suffering with now.
