1fastredsc, I just changed both the gauge and the temp sender on my 83SC. The temp sender that I removed was like yours with a male connection. The replacement had the dish style. It worked with no problem at all.

On a side note, my gauge read that my car was running very hot. Another Pelicanhead asked me if the temp sender unit and the gauge matched. I was not sure, so I decided to change them prior to spending a bunch of money on external coolers. With the new matching parts, my car now gives an accurate reading in the 190 degree range.
