They are clickity clackity bang bang fog horn machines that I get to hold the panic button and before we start tell the technician to get me good and lined up broadside to that Japanese destroyer before I push the button and launch out of the tube!
I have a copper crucifix on a lanyard that I wear around my neck. The technician told me probably be ok to take it off my neck and hold it in my hand outside the tube, warning it might get warm in my hand to the point of a friction burn...I thought well that would be pretty freaky huh?....but it didn't happen. He held it up to the edge of the tube beforehand and there was no attraction.
The ones I've been in are constantly "on" and I'm told if they have to shut down it's a $25,000-$30,000 expense and a day to get it back up and running again.
