I was not a boring evening last night.
The crazy storm that brought snow to LA got to Oklahoma. It was a bizarre storm. From Central TX to central Nebraska! Yesterday morning it was just above freezing, and the winds were normal. We had a wild birthday party for my 90 year old MIL. It was funny at one point before my wife's nephews and grand nephews arrived I was the youngest of 5 people in the room. The conversation was all about knee, shoulder and hip replacements, pituitary gland surgery where they cut your face off, pacemaker battery replacement, and other fun topics.
We left at 3:30 to beat the arriving winds. The south winds started up about 3:30 so I was driving due south into a 40 to 50 MPH wind. Lots of extra wind noise.
As you can see for the screen capture above at 8:53 the front came in from the east, but the wind was mostly from the south. The storm was hauling ass, at 60 MPH across the ground. We had a short period of 60 MPH winds, and them the shear winds arrived. Tornadoes would pop up in 5 minutes, toss debris 20,000 feet into the air, and then just go away.
For the first time since we put in the tornado shelter, we when down there with the dogs, and medicines, insurance paperwork, dog leashes, and sat for 10 minutes as we watched the TV broadcast on my cell phone. We got .16 inches of rain and no damage at all.
Phew.
