I've driven through water when I had my old '88 911. I drove my miata through some water too. I don't think I've had the boxster in as much water as either of the other two. In all cases, I knew where the "snorkle" for the air filter was and how much danger I was in of having the motor ingest water. In any case that I've driven through water I was either VERY familiar with the area so I had a VERY good idea how much water was there, or I'd pull over and stop and watch a few other vehicles drive through to get a good idea how much water was there before I attempted it.
