flavor with some of the same benefits is 'maple water'! We moved to Michigan's Upper Peninsula a couple of years ago and our property is full of sugar maple trees. I have been making maple syrup in the previous two winter/spring seasons and, out of curiosity, looked into 'can maple sap be safely consumed' during my first syruping season and saw there are lots of recipes for using maple sap - it goes great with whiskey and rum. However, drinking 'maple sap' similar to what Bill Douglas originally stated when he started this post with 'coconut water' (i.e., by itself with no mixing or additives), 'maple water' is also great and curative -
