Secondly - I've never had any problems with insects but I have had an Anole find their way into a hose and then when the water comes on they are jammed into the orifices of my nozzle. I've since learned to run the water out of the hose end before attaching my nozzle....just in case.

I won! Finally got all the goo and bug body bits out. The last piece was the biggest one, maybe half an inch long. The pic shows some of the gooey stuff. In total there was a surprising amount. I will be sure to take your advice the next time I connect a new nozzle.
