A bit off topic but......Worked with a guy that was severed by the company in his late 50's. He had a plan in place. Brand new Corvette picture on his cubicle wall.
Took the severance money and turned down taking unemployment which he could have milked for almost two years given it was 2008. Pretty abmirable. (He bought the Corvette once separated, FWIW.)
And then there's the close family member that makes CP look like Andrew Carnagie. She received about $80k worth of work done to her house on a grant from the city for lower income folks. She complained that when they replaced the sewer pipe from house to street they excavated dirt onto her perennials. Complained enough they cut a check for a few hundred bucks to ease her distress.
