I have seen several small block Chevy engine swaps in a 914. Not one handled worth a damn. They would accelerate hard in 2nd through 5th, but first was unusable.
It is a lot of work, and really makes for a mostly crappy car. No doubt a few have done it right. The Factory built two 914-8s with a 908 engine squeezed in there, and the museum still has them.
In the end, it is just a car. An abomination of a car, with a V8 in it, but just a car.
