No argument there Wayne, they are the most succesful, but that is not the peak of racing design/engineering.
The duration and why they lasted that long, was to do with rule changes and how Porsche and privateers worked along and around those rules.
These days no car can last that long , because of the rule changes
That does not mean they are less of a racing design feat
