The Hun had less margin, mach 1.4 top speed
Thud was mach 2.1

I would think it would bleed speed just as well in mil power, but it would take longer to drop to subsonic?

Bugging out with speed was not unique to the Thud or any particular plane.
All 4th gen fighters did high speed bug outs.. Even Tomcats would use that if ACM started becoming unfavrable and the enemy was gaining angles on them during dissimilar training.

Bug out and fight another day is better than getting greased.
